A remedy for the sector crisis
The “Un bout du monde” system is part of the ecosystem of solutions proposed by Julia Cagé in her 2015 book “pour Sauver les Médias”. The economist, and president of the Société des Lecteurs du Monde , advocates a radical change in the economic model to restore reader confidence and media independence. This involves ending the model based on advertising revenue and including citizens in media governance.
Advertising revenues are constantly falling, as are gambling data iran the number of subscribers and newsstand purchases. Julia Cagé points out a historical error by the French press in the development of its digital offering. For the economist, the free model has contributed to reducing the importance of subscriptions in the media's economic model, leading inexorably to a rise in shareholders.
More independence
The association “Au bout du Monde” was born from a partnership between the Société des lecteurs du Monde and the Société du Pôle d'Indépendance du groupe Le Monde . It aims to create the conditions for greater independence of the media from economic and political powers. Its action plan? Support the initiatives of employees who wish to finance their media, organize fundraising and acquire shares and social shares for all members.
More transparency in decision-making
Membership of the association is possible from 5 euros. Each member participates in general meetings and has one vote. The members of the association participate in the decisions of the Le Monde group . The most active members (and having contributed at least 15€) are eligible to sit on the board of directors of the association.
She also criticises the system of public aid to the press, which she considers opaque and obsolete .
