Adrienne Porter Felt, Technical Manager of Google Chrome, and her team also recognize this problem. She told WIRED:

They [URLs] are difficult to read, and it's hard to know which part of them is trustworthy. Fundamentally, I think URLs are not a good way to convey a website's identity. That's why we want to get to a place where web identity can be understood by everyone. ... But that will entail major changes to how and when Google Chrome displays URLs. We're fundamentally challenging the URL and want to clarify whether it's really the best way to convey identity.

According to WIRED, Adrienne Porter Felt and her team's solution for URLs remains unclear. Academics have been exploring various options for years, but the problem doesn't have a simple solution. Porter Felt and her colleague Justin Schuh (principal engineer at Chrome) tell WIRED that even their team is still divided on the best solution. The exact issue hasn't been communicated yet. However, that should change this fall or next spring at the latest.

One thing is clear, however: Whatever the solution, it will polarize and fundamentally change many things. Parisa Tabriz, Technical Director at Google Chrome, shares a similar opinion:
