The invention of gunpowder was actually an accident by Chinese alchemists in the 9th century. One of the first uses of gunpowder outside the laboratory was to make fireworks, which were used to ward off evil spirits. However, as early as 1044 it was used for its destructive and explosive properties that we all know. It was originally used for flamethrowers and fire arrows. The first firearms appeared in the 13th century and were used very often by the Mongols. When the 15th century arrived, 5 formulas for making gunpowder had already been invented, some with over 91% nitrate, the chemical substance that makes gunpowder explode.
