Gamify or die, what is gamification?

Post by pappu6329 »

Last week we had the opportunity to attend a very interesting talk about gamification given by Gamileku . We have been thinking about writing about this topic for some time, so taking advantage of this recent inspiration, we will not postpone it any longer.

What is gamification?

Gamification is a means of achieving well-defined objectives through motivation techniques that encourage the performance of a certain social behavior .

If we take into account that personality develops in the first years of life -between 0 and 4 years is where we learn most of the patterns of behaviour that will condition our social behaviour in adulthood- it is not surprising the number of games designed to give life to the motto "learning by playing". The point is, games work as a way of influencing social behaviour, so gamification extracts what attracts us from games to incorporate it into other areas, such as work, education, etc.

When are we interested in applying gamification?

The application of gamification is not a “cool” tool that looks great in our shop window, but rather it is part of a very well thought-out strategy. The basis of gamification must be to pursue a benefit and achieve a SMART objective (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-limited). Here it happens the same as when we talk about Web analytics: if you do not have a clear objective, you do not know what to measure and in this case you cannot gamify.

How does gamification work?

With motivation, trying to generate commitment and loyalty , although of course without forgetting the playful component . When referring to gamification, the concept of fun must be included to achieve the immersion of the players . Just as it happens with children when they play with colored geometric figures and try to hit the right place, gamification tries to get its participants to do things voluntarily and induce social behavior.

What does a gamification project need to have to be successful?

Rules . Yes, this is the serious part, but it is important that there are bosnia and herzegovina telegram lead some foundations and that they are solid so that we know what to expect.
Intrinsic motivation (the incentive is the performance of the behavior itself), although extrinsic motivation (the reasons that drive the action are unrelated to the action itself) should not be an obstacle. It is essential to attract the player to our system.
Balance . It is important to maintain a balance between complexity and comprehensibility, otherwise it will generate frustration, discomfort and a high potential for abandonment.
Feedback throughout the game so you know where you are.
The story . It is very important to wrap the system in a narrative since it is the basis on which the game is based and what invites participation.
Options . The possibility of choosing certain aspects of the game or the characters is an incentive for the participant and helps them get involved.
Target audience. As with any action carried out, it is essential to know the target group in order to choose the communication style and create a setting that is appropriate to their profile.
