TALENT DAYS: Hi Staszek, great to see you! Before you tell us about your career story, maybe you could tell us a little about yourself?
STASZEK: My interests are mainly related to what I studied, i.e. economics. Apart from that, I am interested in modern technologies and nature. My passion is also sports – I took part in a powerlifting competition at the Polish Academic Championships, where I won 4th place. I don't take part in competitions anymore, but I like to visit the gym from time to time.
TALENT DAYS: It's great that you have so much passion! Tell us, how did you go about finding your first job? Was it hard?
STASZEK: At first I looked for offers online, but I noticed that they were often repeated and largely targeted at the same group of people, so it can be hard to stand out from the other candidates. That's when I decided that I had to do something more and I got interested in job fairs, which give me a better chance of catching the attention of employers. During Talent Days I took part in Talent Match and I remember it very well. It is a great opportunity for those more shy people who are afraid to approach recruiters, because thanks to participating in Talent Match they are already scheduled for a specific time for a conversation with a matched employer. It's a very nice option!
TALENT DAYS: We are glad that you have fond memories of participating in Talent Match! And what was your first meeting with Zurich Insurance like? Was it stressful?
STASZEK: After applying to Talent Match, I was offered a meeting at a job fair. At Talent Days, I met Pedro, a department manager from Zurich Insurance, who told me about the company. I was a bit stressed, but thanks to the relaxed atmosphere, I eventually started asking about various things related to the job – about what interested me the most, such as controlling.
TALENT DAYS: You currently work as a Planning and Performance Management Junior Analyst. Do you see this as your future?
STASZEK: Maybe I wouldn't be attached to the industry, but rather to the tasks I perform. I like working with new technologies and with people at the same time, so this position is perfect for me.
TALENT DAYS: You have some experience in this area. Can you share some advice with other young people who are looking for their first job – like you did a few months ago?
STASZEK: For me, looking for a job, having all these interviews – that was very stressful. What advice would I give to young people who are starting out in the profession? For example, completing an interesting internship, thematically related to the job we potentially want to do. I did two in total.
TALENT DAYS: Not bad! That certainly helped you stand out from the other candidates. What were those internships like?
STASZEK: My first internship was in the market analysis department. I worked mainly with Excel. To be honest, I wasn't really interested in it - I expected something a bit different. But that doesn't mean I don't recommend it. It's always worth trying different things, even for a while - especially if you don't have any experience on your CV. This one wasn't for me in the long run, but the internship allowed me to verify that. Internships aren't everything. There are also various projects at the university that you can get involved in and learn something new thanks to it.
