Disappearing messages are a pretty useful feature that's available in many popular apps. They're useful not only for the spy in the movie, but also for anyone who wants to gossip safely (although in that case, one can only hope that the person you're chatting with doesn't take a screenshot). Here's how to use this feature in various apps.
It's important to remember that people may resort to various tricks to preserve an important message, such as taking screenshots or taking a picture of the screen using another device. So try to be careful about what you share and with whom.
Signal
The disappearing messages feature in Signal can be enabled by default for all or individual conversations: the user can switch between disappearing and regular messages in any thread. To do this, in the conversation, tap the three dots (top right) and select "Disappearing messages."
The available options allow you to choose the message retention period from 1 second to 4 weeks or disable this feature. You can also set your own timer.
To set a default expiration time for messages in all chats, open france number data the main app settings page, select Privacy, then Default timer for new chats (under Disappearing messages). These settings apply to every new chat.
WhatsApp
Currently, WhatsApp's disappearing messages feature only works with images and videos. The recipient can view the files for 14 days, after which the messages will automatically disappear.
Open the conversation you want to send the image or video to, select the cameras at the bottom, and then record your content. To make the message disappear, you need to click on the icon with the number 1 next to the green send button.
You can also add a signature that disappears with the media. Disappearing messages will be marked with a special round icon with a unit in the middle. After viewing, the message will be labeled "opened" and will no longer be accessible.
Snapchat
Snapchat didn't invent disappearing messages, but it certainly helped popularize them. From the main chat screen, you can tap any contact to start a conversation, or create a chat by tapping the icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
All messages in the conversation, including text and images, disappear after viewing. The other person can save the message by pressing and holding it, but the sender will still be able to see it because the selected file will remain on the screen.
